Why is the fashion scene not happening in Fort Collins?

As the fourth biggest city in Colorado, Fort Collins isn’t lacking much compared to the bigger cities. Except for Fashion. The fashion scene here is drastically different than Boulder or Denver. If you live here and are looking for something specific you might as well look online. There aren’t many options to find what you are looking for.

Many do not think of Fort Collins as a place for fashion, but many do not know that Colorado State University has the 5th ranked Fashion design and merchandising program. So why does Fort Collins still not have a booming fashion scene although CSU has one of the top-ranked programs? I believe that many of the reasons the boutiques are succeeding and helping Fort Collins become fashion-forward in Fort Collins are with the help of CSU graduates of the Design and Merchandising program. In the article, Fashion forward: CSU fashion design, merchandising highly ranked, by Katie Schmidt, Cameron Moon, a graduate of the program in 2012, opened up a boutique called Magnolia Moon. Students like her are helping create a bigger fashion scene in Fort Collins.

I believe that the fashion scene in Fort Collins is not happening in Fort Collins because the city was originally built upon a town of agriculture. The city is still trying to move towards a different vibe, but fashion is one that has been coming about slowly. With the help of the Colorado State University design and merchandising program and the expansion of new stores at the Foothills mall, fashion might be able to compare to Boulder and Denver one day.
