The Two Simple Hacks That Help Me Do Most of My Difficult Tasks

Deliberately using them can produce 100x results.

For the longest time, we rely on motivation to start doing the work.

I know I used to do anything only when I felt like it. The rest of the time, I was either spending my time away streaming Netflix or scrolling social media.

The result?

Hours of wasted time trying to find my motivation. But my real motivation was spent watching Netflix.

My brain was already getting its dopamine from all those Netflix series designed to hook you from the first episode. It didn’t want to do anything else.

I knew I had to do something that would trick my brain into doing complex and challenging tasks. These two simple tricks helped me the most. I bet you must have tried them before, maybe unconsciously or deliberately.

But. They sure work.

The first hack is to make the challenging task seem more fun.

It is mentioned in the bestseller Atomic Habits by James Clear. James says that you can make any task or habit more fun by combining it with something else that you already find appealing.

The term he uses is Template Bundling.

The core concept here is that you combine a task that is good for you but challenging with something that you feel good doing and make you feel marvellous in the short term.
