My idea of Success

The first thing that comes to mind whenever I think of success is a quote by the basket ball player Michael Jordan. The quote is a bit long but every word matters and adds to the message. The quote goes like this,

I am sure one would naturally think how this would be considered a meaning for success but let me explain.

The importance of this Michael Jordan quote goes beyond just the words for me but if I could give you a snapshot of its impact on myself it would include a mixture of things. For starters, I love how Mr. Jordan is straight to the point but also so very humble in stating his reason for success. MJ tells the audience that failure has brought him success straightaway, which lets us know that Michael has the humility to let ego and pride have no place in the way he approaches success. He takes it further by adding quantitative facts to further the meaning that failure is what led to success. The rest is all critical interpretation from the reader to understand the meaning for themselves.

Now, with the quick analysis over, I myself, interpret Jordan’s words as learning from your mistakes and being able to not only do better but work harder than you have ever had before. In addition, one needs to have the dedication to make good on your failures and turn them around and make them successes. Of course, I understand that things are easier said then done in life, however there is a saying that life can be looked at as 90% mental and the other half physical. Being able to focus your all on what makes sense to you and living with the challenge to carry that out is not only success in my book but how I look at life. It’s the reason I follow my passion for music. It’s the reason for wanting to have a career in the world of music, just know that if you want me to define what music is to me then thats a whole other paper to write about. Overall, success is a word that means so many things to so many different people but its how you approach it that matters for you.

Finally, lets talk about musical successes in my eyes. There are three artists that immediately come to mind in no particular; they consist of Conor Oberst, Kendrick Lamar, and The Beatles. I chose these three artists for one reason. That reason is, for each one of them, I know I could listen to every album and every track they put out if stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere. What that means is that I love them simply because I love the music they have created throughout their careers. That to me is a big part of their success; they all found the ability to make an impact, a statement with their music and make it bigger then themselves and matter to people on reasons different from the next. The ability to sit an analyst how or why they have become as big in their genre as they have is another kind of question, but simply put, they have a passion to do what they do or did.

For a quick wrap up of all this info, I just want to point out that I think everyone has their own creative way of what success means and looks like for them. However for me, I know that how I view success is not only the main ingredient for a happy career but also life in whole; to be dedicated to the journey and working harder than ever to get there is my version of success.
