Money Is NEVER The Object

Wealth. Humans tend to define it as narrowly as they define Love. This was apparent to me as I read several posts from a recent Medium challenge reaching out to writers to describe a Life where money wasn’t the object. A Life built completely oblivious of a bank account or credit card balance.

There were some fascinating reads.

But so much came down to this: Humans equated having great wealth with the ability to have great freedom. Not having to think about finances — having an endless supply would somehow free them to pursue dreams, donate to favorite causes, travel, care for their families, etc…

Enter reality. In truth — in our world — are the rich like that? Are they happy? Do they pursue their dreams? Are they Free?

Well, no of course not. If anything — they are more chained and constrained than Humans with modest means. Because when you have more wealth to lose — your burdens and fears become greater. Not less.

Human nature being what it is.

Let me give you proof of it. How many people here have ever gotten a raise? Yes — good. How many of you have immediately absorbed that extra bit of financial security right into your day-to-day existence without so much of a blink of an eye and found yourself right back at square one prior to the raise still looking forward to your next windfall/paycheck/raise? Expenses— like a noxious gas — expand to fit one’s income. If you live unconsciously as most of us do.

Believe me when I tell you this — it is never about The Money. Ever.

A rich, wealthy life has nothing to do with your portfolio and everything to do with your attitude. Just as we tend to ignore Love in our lives unless it comes gift wrapped as Romantic Love — we will ignore Wealth unless it is delivered to our bank accounts.

What is The Wealth of Life which money can’t buy? You already know this stuff. But I’ll remind you anyway.

Let’s base it on psychology to make it sound less like spirituality for the folks who might like facts rather than woo-woo.
